Job Summary

Aptive is seeking a communications writer and editor to support integrated communications efforts for our U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Health Care Recruitment Marketing client. The role requires two to five years of communications experience and demonstrated knowledge of research, writing, editing, and strategic communications. This position requires a versatile self-starter with strong intellect and initiative, total reliability, ability to function in a fast-paced environment, and top-flight communication skills. Exceptional ability to develop coherent and compelling prose is the primary requirement.

This full-time position is located at Aptive Headquarters in Old Town Alexandria, VA; 100% Remote Work is also available.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Research, write, edit, and coordinate a broad range of communications materials (blogs, articles, internal VA communications, fact sheets, brochures, flyers, social media posts, emails, website, etc.) under strict deadlines.
  • Support expansion of content development for comprehensive recruitment and marketing materials, including spotlight marketing plans.
  • Employ content development process to generate materials that adhere to VHA Tier I graphic and 508-compliance standards; are clear and concise; reinforce the approved national recruitment marketing plans; and adhere to other style and compliance guidance.
  • Gather, analyze, and interpret information and data from various sources.
  • Work closely with design staff and writing staff on various communication materials.
  • Work independently to plan, generate, and deliver client-ready materials for various stakeholders, including organization leadership and VA health care recruiters.
  • Ensure tone and focus are appropriate for target audiences and that content complies with AP style and with any client-specific style guides.
  • Review documents for stylistic and formatting consistency.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Two to five years of experience in strategic communications, public relations, or public affairs; government experience a plus.
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, English, or a related field.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to deliver clear, compelling communications, both written and verbal.
  • Excellent organizational skills with a high-level attention to detail and ability to carry out multiple tasks under tight deadlines.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a public trust clearance.
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S.

  • Experience in research, writing, and editing.
  • Ability to manage multiple moving parts, juggle multiple assignments, and make sound decisions.
  • Ability to deliver clear, compelling communications, both written and verbal.
  • Perform well in team settings and work productively as an individual.
  • Positive and energetic attitude with a strong desire to meet goals, priorities, and commitments.
  • Experience writing about health topics and Veterans’ issues strongly desired.
