Job Summary

Aptive Resources is seeking a Communications Director with a strong background in strategic communications and education and outreach initiatives to support the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). The Communications Director will support CMS’ mission of detecting and reducing fraud, waste, and abuse, and identifying and preventing improper payments in CMS programs.

 

The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented strategic thinker with previous experience supporting government contracts. They are an exceptional writer, skilled at developing content for a variety of mediums, including websites, social media, and blogs. They are a proactive problem solver who works well both independently and as part of a team. The candidate must be committed to providing superior customer service and have a positive and flexible attitude. They excel when presenting to clients and are comfortable receiving and implementing feedback on project tasks. They will develop, lead, track, and support program communications across a variety of platforms, and they will ensure themes, messages and desired outcomes are consistent across communication channels.

 

The Communications Director should be able to demonstrate their ability to lead a team effectively, have a strong set of problem-solving capabilities, and possess strong oral and written communication skills.

 

This is a Senior-level, full-time position located in Alexandria, VA. This position may also be remote.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Overseeing and approving project information or announcements before products are sent to the business owners and CMS staff.
  • Responsible for quality assurance initiatives and all matters related to the contract.
  • Working in a leadership role on the communications side of the contract, interacting with CMS staff, stakeholders, and other contractors on projects.
  • Developing and executing comprehensive education and outreach plans.
  • Interfacing with Aptive graphics team to create professional promotional and training materials.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communications skills.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 5+ years of professional experience in a communications, public relations, or marketing role.
  • 7 years managerial experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, public relations, journalism, or English.
  • Several years of managerial or leadership experience preferred.
  • Consulting experience supporting large, complex Cabinet-level federal agencies.
  • Availability to work full time in Alexandria, V.A. and/or a telework environment.

Desired Qualifications

  • Masters Degree in a related field
  • Ability to get up to speed quickly on complex issues; desire to work in a fast-paced, rapidly evolving environment.
  • Capable self-starter with a drive to get all types of work done and high attention to detail.
  • Prior experience working with the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services
