Job Summary

Aptive Resources, a leading provider of medical solutions, is seeking a dedicated Medical Supply Technician to join our team at the VA Health System in Fort Wayne, IN. As a Medical Supply Technician, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the functionality, sterility, and availability of medical equipment and supplies essential for patient care.

 

Schedule: 4:00 PM - 6:00 AM (14-hour shifts) Monday to Friday (70 hours), Saturday - Sunday Shift (48 hours)

Primary Responsibilities

  • Process, assemble, troubleshoot, prepare, sterilize, store, and issue sterile and unsterile medical supplies and equipment in accordance with established procedures and guidelines.
  • Maintain and repair a wide range of medical equipment, from simple devices like blood pressure cuffs to complex machines, ensuring optimal performance and safety.
  • Possess in-depth knowledge of the technical names, general uses, physical characteristics, and operating conditions of medical supply items.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in decontamination, cleaning, preparation, sterilization, and storage procedures to uphold stringent hygiene standards.
  • Employ aseptic techniques to prevent contamination and maintain the integrity of medical supplies and equipment.
  • Operate various sterilization equipment including washer-sterilizers, ultrasonic instrument cleaners, and gas and steam sterilizers with precision and efficiency.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Proven experience in processing, assembling, troubleshooting, preparing, sterilizing, storing, and issuing medical supplies and equipment, preferably in a hospital or medical facility setting.
  • Knowledge of medical supply processing, storage, and distribution procedures acquired through 2 years of relevant study, including at least 12 semester hours in related courses such as sterile supplies, operating room, surgical technician courses, or other relevant fields.
  • Familiarity with aseptic techniques and infection control protocols.
  • Ability to operate and maintain sterilization equipment effectively.
  • Strong attention to detail and adherence to standard operating procedures.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with healthcare professionals and other team members.
