Job Summary

As a Registered Nurse - Health Educator, you will play a crucial role in providing comprehensive health education to patients within the Northern Arizona VA Healthcare System. 

 

Part-time, 52 scheduled one (1) day events per year. 

Hours 8am-5pm

Primary Responsibilities

This position entails conducting group and individual sessions aimed at empowering patients to make informed decisions about their health and adopt healthier lifestyles. The ideal candidate will possess a current, unrestricted RN license in the state of Arizona and demonstrate expertise in various health education topics, including but not limited to tobacco cessation, alcohol/substance abuse education, mental health, diabetes management, nutrition, lifestyle choices, hypertension management, cardiovascular wellness, and women's health screenings.

 

  • Conduct group patient health education sessions as scheduled, totaling 52 events per year, across any of the five clinics within the VA Health Clinic network.
  • Provide individualized patient education tailored to specific health needs and conditions.
  • Cover a range of health education topics, including tobacco cessation, alcohol/substance abuse education, mental health conditions (anxiety, depression, PTS, grief), diabetes management, nutrition, lifestyle choices, hypertension management, cardiovascular wellness, and women's health screenings.
  • Empower patients to take ownership of their health by equipping them with knowledge and resources to make informed decisions.
  • Utilize evidence-based practices and educational materials to deliver high-quality health education sessions.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, including physicians, nurses, and allied health staff, to ensure coordinated care and support for patients.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of patient education activities and outcomes in accordance with clinic protocols and regulatory requirements.

Minimum Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution.
  • Current, unrestricted license to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of Arizona.
  • Minimum of 5 years of clinical experience as an RN, preferably in a primary care or community health setting.
  • Strong knowledge of various health education topics, including tobacco cessation, substance abuse, mental health conditions, diabetes management, nutrition, lifestyle choices, hypertension management, cardiovascular wellness, and women's health screenings.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage and educate patients from diverse backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
  • Proficiency in documentation and record-keeping, with attention to detail and accuracy.

Desired Qualifications

  • Certification in Health Education (e.g., CHES, MCHES) preferred but not required.
