Job Summary

Aptive Resources is seeking a skilled GI Lab Registered Nurse to support the Atlanta VA Medical Center. The GI Lab RN will be responsible for providing high-quality nursing care in compliance with accepted standards of care and clinical practice. This role involves assessing, planning, implementing, documenting, and evaluating patient care in a GI Lab Unit setting, catering to adult and geriatric populations, where life-threatening diseases or injuries require close monitoring and rapid intervention.

 

Shifts: 8-hour shifts, Monday - Friday

Primary Responsibilities

  • Deliver clinical care in accordance with accepted standards of care and clinical practice.
  • Utilize clinical judgment to assess, plan, implement, document, and evaluate patient care.
  • Coordinate and implement patient care specific to the age of the patient population served in the GI Lab.
  • Function both dependently and independently under the guidance and direction of the Nurse Manager/designee.
  • Perform routine procedures, including insertion of peripheral lines, blood sample collection by venipuncture and central line catheters, and removal of peripheral intravenous lines and central venous catheters under physician direction.
  • Conduct 12-lead EKGs and follow ACLS protocols in the event of patient chest pain or cardiac abnormalities.
  • Setup and monitor for colonoscopies, GI endoscopy (EGD), Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS), Pill Cam, and manometry.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in CPRS throughout the shift.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Active, current license as a professional nurse in any state (United States).
  • Completion of an accredited course in Intensive Care/GI Lab Nursing.
  • Certification in Moderate Sedation or equivalent.
  • Minimum of three (3) years prior experience in an intensive care setting, including Critical Care/GI Lab experience.  Experience must be recent, having worked within the last six months in the specialty/setting.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or a related field required; Master’s Degree in Nursing or a related field is highly preferred.
  • Current CPR/BLS certification accredited by the American Heart Association.
  • Current Advanced Cardiopulmonary Life Support (ACLS) certification accredited by the American Heart Association.
  • Nurses with Acute/Critical Care Nursing (CCRN) certification through the American Association of Critical Care Nurses Certification Corporation (AACN) CCRN certificate are preferred.
