Job Summary

As a Sterile Processing Technician, you play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and effectiveness of medical procedures by meticulously cleaning, sterilizing, and assembling medical instruments and equipment. You will work closely with healthcare professionals to maintain high standards of infection control and patient safety.

 

Sterile Processing Service Technicians shall rotate assignments among the various sterilization, process, decontamination, surgical/ dental tray assembly, flexible endoscope reprocessing, reusable inventory, medical equipment processing, and quality assurance functions. The Sterile Processing Service Technicians may be required to workdays, evenings, nights, weekends, and/or holidays.

 

·Work Schedule: Determined as needed; tours of duty listed below. Sterile Processing Service Technicians weekly hours can range from eight (8) to forty (40) hours per week. Sterile Processing Service Technicians shall be available Monday-Sunday with five possible Tour of Duties:

  • Tour 1 – 6:00am – 2:30pm
  • Tour 2 – 8:00am – 4:30pm
  • Tour 3 – 2:30pm – 11:00pm
  • Tour 4 – 3:30pm – 12:00am
  • Tour 5 – 9:00pm – 5:30am

Primary Responsibilities

  • Clean, disinfect, and sterilize surgical instruments, medical devices, and equipment according to established protocols and procedures.
  • Inspect instruments and equipment for defects, wear, or damage, reporting any issues for repair or replacement.
  • Assemble and package sterile instruments and equipment, ensuring they are correctly labeled and ready for use.
  • Operate sterilization equipment such as autoclaves, ensuring proper functioning and adherence to sterilization standards.
  • Maintain records of sterilization processes, equipment maintenance, and inventory levels.
  • Collaborate with nurses, surgeons, and other healthcare professionals to prioritize and fulfill instrument requests.
  • Follow safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized work environment.
  • Stay updated on advancements in sterile processing techniques and technologies.

Minimum Qualifications

  •  Education/Training: Certificate from IAHCSMM/HSPA OR graduation from a nationally recognized ORT training program OR graduation from a US military training program for SPTs OR VA Level 2 cert
  •  Experience: At least two years in SPS environment (candidate with certification) OR 5 years of experience for non-certified candidates

  • Certifications/Licenses: CRCST highly desired
