Job Summary

Aptive is seeking a Senior Researcher to lead and conduct a variety of qualitative research projects on behalf of our federal government clients. The successful candidate will conduct their own applied qualitative research and support Research Associates with their research projects. This includes working with clients and cross-functional teams to help conceptualize and design research, setting up and conducting virtual and in-person fieldwork, doing data analysis, writing reports and other deliverables, participating in the presentation of reports and deliverables to clients, and guiding research associates with the above.

 

Passion for conducting real-world qualitative research that improves lives is a prerequisite for this position as is having an interest in topics such as diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA) in federal government, optimizing public health communications for Veterans and others, translating highly technical topics into approachable and accessible public communications. 

 

The successful candidate will be dedicated to excellence in both managing the research work itself and compassionately guiding more junior researchers to help them grow and flourish in the field. This role requires someone who is empathetic, highly organized, and proactive in both management and leadership in a fast-paced environment.

 

This full-time position in Washington, DC.

 

The expected compensation at the time of requisition creation is between $125,000-$140,000.  The position offers medical, dental and vision coverage.  Additional benefits such as 401K, disability insurance and PTO are provided as well.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Work across several client project teams, often serving as a liaison between clients and cross-functional internal teams.
  • Help ensure that the highest standards of ethics and legality are upheld in all research and evaluation projects (e.g. confidentiality and privacy, trauma-informed practice, Paperwork Reduction Act compliance).
  • Lead and conduct primary qualitative research with diverse cohorts on topics of interest to Aptive’s federal government clients.
  • Lead and conduct deep-dive desk research, triangulating quantitative data, gray literature, and client-provided data.
  • Conceptualize and design primary qualitative research projects.
  • Guide clients, cross-functional team members, and more junior researchers on the applied research methods and approaches utilized to translate client needs into actionable and innovative recommendations.
  • Manage and nurture client relationships

Minimum Qualifications

  • 5+ years of relevant professional experience in applied research with increasing responsibility
  • PhD preferred.
  • Ability and desire to guide and support junior team members.
  • Strong cross-functional team collaboration skills (working with non-researchers).
  • Deep understanding of primary qualitative research methods and how to apply them.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects and priorities.
  • Ability and passion for working independently while also communicating well with teammates across departments and workstreams.
  • The ability to see both the bigger picture and understand the details of applied research projects and communicate these across teams, with clients, and to more junior research team members.
  • Intellectual creativity and agility.
  • Ability to get up to speed quickly on complex issues.
  • Must have a current Secret Clearance.
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S.
