Job Summary

Certified Radiologic Therapeutic Technologist (RTT)

Location: Washington D.C. VA Medical Center (DCVAMC)
Contract Period: April 20, 2025 – April 19, 2026, with four additional option years
Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7 AM - 3:30 PM or 8 AM - 4:30 PM

Hourly Compensation: 60/hr plus 4.93 for Health and Wellness

Primary Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

  • Perform therapeutic radiation treatments as prescribed by radiation oncologists.
  • Interpret prescriptions/instructions from treating physicians and carry out complex assignments under general supervision.
  • Prepare imaging, simulation, treatment, and ancillary equipment for patient use.
  • Maintain patient positioning and ensure accuracy in radiation delivery.
  • Operate and maintain imaging and radiation therapy equipment, including Varian linear accelerators.
  • Follow all Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) regulations and radiation safety guidelines.
  • Participate in quality control measures and ensure compliance with professional practice standards.
  • Maintain accurate patient records in the VA’s Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS).
  • Assist in maintaining supplies and equipment necessary for radiation therapy procedures.
  • Adhere to HIPAA regulations and VA privacy/security policies.
  • Attend required training and participate in patient safety initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Associate degree or higher in Therapeutic Radiologic Technology from an accredited program.
  • Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in radiation therapy.
  • Minimum one year of experience in:
    • Radiation oncology treatment machines and equipment.
    • Delivery of prescribed therapeutic radiation for cancer treatment.
    • 3D Conformal Radiation Therapy (3D-CRT), Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT), Image-Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT), and Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy (SBRT).
  • Strong knowledge of patient safety, infection control, and radiation protection standards.
  • Proficiency in electronic medical record systems, preferably VA’s CPRS.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Compliance with VA’s credentialing and privileging process.
