Registered Respiratory Therapist and Respiratory Therapist/Polysomnographer

Location: VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System (VAGLAHS) – 11301 Wilshire Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90073
Position(s):

  • Registered Respiratory Therapists (RRTs)
    • 2 FTE
    • Full-time, 8-hour shifts; day and night shifts available
  • RRTs + Polysomnographer
    • 2 FTE
    • Full-time, 8-hour shifts; day and night shifts available

Wages: $40 per hour

 

The Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)/Polysomnographer provides comprehensive respiratory care and sleep diagnostic services to patients at the VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System. The RRT will perform therapeutic and diagnostic procedures, support life-saving interventions. In addition, the RRT/Polysomnographer will also conduct polysomnographic sleep studies.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Perform full night and split-night polysomnograms, sleep staging, CPAP/BIPAP/APAP setup, and titration.
  • Administer therapeutic gases (oxygen, nitric oxide) and inhaled medications.
  • Set up, monitor, and manage all ventilators and modes of mechanical ventilation.
  • Assist with intubation and airway management.
  • Provide chest physiotherapy (manual and with Vest system) and postural drainage.
  • Respond to rapid response calls and assist in resuscitation (must have current ACLS certification).
  • Maintain accurate and detailed logs and patient records (manual/electronic).
  • Perform arterial punctures for blood gas analysis.
  • Deliver patient and family education regarding respiratory therapies.
  • Ensure compliance with VA protocols, The Joint Commission standards, and HIPAA requirements.

Minimum Qualifications

Registered Respiratory Therapist with Polysomnographer

  • Education: Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Therapy Program and accredited Sleep Program.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum 2 years’ experience as an RRT, including at least 1 year in critical care.
    • Minimum 2 years’ experience in polysomnography.
  • Licensure/Certification:
    • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC).
    • Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) by BRPT or Registered Sleep Technologist (RST) by AASM.
    • Active licensure with the California Respiratory Care Board.
    • Polysomnographer licensure with the Medical Board of California.
    • Current ACLS certification.
  • Other: Three professional references required. Must pass pre-assignment medical exam and background check.

Registered Respiratory Therapist

  • Education: Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Therapy Program.
  • Experience:
