Job Summary

Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist – General X-ray (DRT)

Location: VA San Diego Healthcare System (VASDHS), La Jolla, CA, and CBOCs
Reports To: VASDHS Chief/Supervisory Technologist (on-site); Contractor Liaison (vendor)
Schedule: Day/Evening/Night, weekends/holidays, up to 12-hour shifts; on-call as needed (30-minute report time)

Compensation: $40.00/hr plus $5.09 for Health and Wellness

Position Overview

Provide full-scope general radiographic imaging for veteran patients, delivering safe, high-quality studies that meet Joint Commission and VA standards. Work independently and within an interdisciplinary team to ensure timely, accurate exams and superb patient care.

Primary Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Receive, identify, and prepare patients; explain procedures and obtain cooperation.

  • Perform general radiography across the body (portable, fixed, C-arm), including complex procedures (e.g., GI studies, IVPs, arthrography).

  • Select technical factors, position patients, operate radiographic equipment; ensure radiation safety.

  • Prepare rooms, set sterile fields; assist with contrast administration under radiologist supervision.

  • Process, send, and QA images in PACS; complete case editing and documentation in VistA/CPRS.

  • Adhere to VASDHS protocols, infection control, and safety policies; maintain supplies and room readiness.

  • Communicate findings/needs to radiologists, nursing, and leadership; escalate issues promptly.

  • Participate in required VA trainings and quality programs.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • ARRT (R); California licenses in Radiography and Fluoroscopy (current/valid).

  • 2+ years full-time, current general radiography experience within the last 3 years (2080 hrs/yr).

  • Demonstrated competence with portable/fixed X-ray and C-arm operations.

  • BLS certification; fluent in English; PACS and EMR proficiency.
