Job Summary

Job Title: Health Technician / Health Aide – Domiciliary Program

Location: Sam Rayburn Memorial Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC) – Bonham, TX. Position could also include sites across the Dallas Fort Worth Metro.
Organization: VA North Texas Healthcare System (VANTHCS)
Service Line: Mental Health Service
Schedule: 24/7 Rotating Shifts (Days, Evenings, Nights, Weekends, and Holidays)

Compensation: $20.00/hr-$25.00/hr pending shift commitment. Position will also include a $5.09 Health and Wellness.

Primary Responsibilities

Position Summary

The Health Technician/Health Aide will provide essential day-to-day care and support to residents within the Domiciliary program, ensuring a safe, therapeutic, and recovery-oriented environment. Working as part of an interdisciplinary team, Health Aides deliver hands-on support to Veterans, assist with behavioral and medical monitoring, and facilitate engagement in treatment and daily activities.

This position requires a strong sense of empathy, professionalism, and dependability, as well as the ability to respond effectively in fast-paced or high-stress situations.

 

A key component of this service is the Domiciliary Residential Rehabilitation and Treatment Program (DRRTP), which provides a structured, supportive living environment to help residents stabilize, engage in treatment, and work toward greater independence.

Due to increasing resident acuity and census, the Domiciliary Program is expanding its staffing to maintain safe, therapeutic, and consistent care. To meet these needs.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 24/7 residential support and supervision in accordance with VA policies and procedures.

  • Conduct regular rounding and observe patient behaviors, reporting significant changes in health, mood, or behavior to clinical staff promptly.

  • Facilitate or lead therapeutic, recreational, and psychoeducational activities as directed by treatment teams.

  • Assist with patient intake, orientation, and discharge processes, including collection and documentation of vital information.

  • Maintain awareness of and document residents’ whereabouts and participation in daily programming to ensure safety and accountability.

  • Escort residents throughout the facility or to scheduled appointments, ensuring safety, structure, and therapeutic engagement.

  • Support residents in developing and maintaining activities of daily living (ADL) skills consistent with recovery goals.

  • Respond to behavioral emergencies in accordance with facility crisis intervention and safety protocols.

  • Complete all required documentation accurately and in a timely manner.

  • Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary team members, including physicians, nurses, social workers, and therapists.

  • Adhere to all VA policies, infection control protocols, and patient confidentiality standards (HIPAA).

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.

  • Minimum of two (2) years of postsecondary education at an accredited college, university, or junior college, including at least 12 semester hours in health sciences, nursing, behavioral science, social science, counseling, teaching, biological sciences, or related fields.

Experience:

  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience providing direct patient care in a rehabilitation, behavioral health, or medical setting.

  • Demonstrated experience performing therapeutic and supportive tasks assisting clinical professionals in residential or inpatient treatment programs.

Certification:

  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

Technical Proficiency:

  • Must be fluent in spoken and written English.

  • Must demonstrate competence in patient observation, behavioral documentation, and communication with multidisciplinary teams.

  • Ability to maintain composure in emergency situations and apply sound judgment within scope of role.

Documentation Required:

  • Current resume or curriculum vitae (CV), including all relevant education and training.

  • Documentation verifying certifications and competencies.

  • Minimum of three (3) professional references, including current or most recent supervisor.
