Location: 200 Veterans Ave, Beckley, WV 25801

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm | Inpatient & Outpatient

 

Aptive is seeking a full-time Radiologist to support a rewarding opportunity with the Beckley VA Medical Center in Beckley, WV. The Beckley VAMC is a Joint Commission–accredited, complexity level II facility serving Veterans across 11 counties in southern West Virginia.

Position Overview

The Radiologist will provide comprehensive Radiology and Nuclear Medicine services to Veterans across inpatient, outpatient, and emergency care within one of the facility’s largest clinical departments, encompassing Interventional Radiology, CT, MRI, Ultrasound, Nuclear Medicine, Diagnostic Radiology, and PACS.  In addition, the role includes administrative and leadership duties, such as committee participation, support of another staffed radiologist, oversight of quality and safety, collaboration with hospital leadership and education teams, and contribution to performance improvement, strategic planning, and academic teaching activities. This opportunity does not require call coverage, weekend work, or holiday responsibilities.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Ensure exam appropriateness and protocol accuracy by reviewing imaging requests, prescribing and modifying protocols based on clinical indications, and applying appropriateness criteria.
  • Provide high-quality image interpretation and reporting by analyzing imaging studies with clinical correlation, generating comprehensive diagnostic reports, and communicating critical or time-sensitive findings promptly.
  • Oversee imaging quality and patient safety through technical image quality review, feedback to technologists, radiation safety compliance, personal dosimetry maintenance, and safety event reporting.
  • Provide clinical oversight of imaging-related medications and infection control including contrast administration, patient preparation protocols, and adherence to infection prevention practices.
  • Lead and participate in quality assurance and performance improvement activities such as peer review, protocol review, MRI safety, Radiology QA committees, and identification of gaps in exam interpretation with mitigation strategies.
  • Support interdisciplinary collaboration and consultation by advising providers on exam selection and results, participating in clinical conferences (e.g., Tumor Board), and serving as a liaison between medical staff and hospital administration.
  • Coordinate and contribute to patient-centered care through patient interaction, informed consent, CPRS documentation, care coordination, and definitive notification of clinically significant results.
  • Promote continuous improvement, education, and strategic initiatives by analyzing performance data, collaborating with leadership on strategic goals, supporting education and research efforts, and integrating advancements in imaging and healthcare practice.

Work Environment & Schedule

  • Setting: Inpatient and outpatient care at the Beckley VA Medical Center
  • Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m.
  • Call: None
  • Weekends/Holidays: None
  • Travel: Not required
  • Telemedicine: Not allowed
  • Support: Collaborative nursing and administrative staff

Compensation & Benefits

  • Competitive salary based on federal physician pay structure (base + market pay)

Minimum Qualifications

  • MD or DO degree from an accredited institution
  • Current, full, and unrestricted medical license in any U.S. state or territory
  • Federal DEA license
  • BLS certification
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English

Desired Qualifications

  • Board-certified Radiologist
  • Possess the skills of reading virtual colonoscopies and cardiac angiographies or will be willing to learn.
  • Experience supervising trainees or advanced practice providers
  • Strong collaboration skills
