Day shifts between 5:30 AM – 5:00 PM
May include weekends, holidays, and overtime (no on-call required)
Compensation: Starting at 27.00/hr plus $5.09 for Health and Wellness; hourly rate is negotionable based on years of experience
The Phlebotomist provides on-site laboratory phlebotomy services to Veterans at VA Boston Healthcare System facilities. This role supports inpatient and outpatient care by performing blood collection, specimen processing, and related laboratory functions in accordance with VA policies, CLSI standards, and national accreditation requirements.
Perform venipuncture and specimen collection for:
Inpatient ward rounds
Outpatient clinics
Emergency Department (ED)
STAT, ASAP, and timed draws
Accurately identify patients and specimens prior to collection, testing, or aliquoting
Process specimens and prepare samples for send-out testing
Document and resolve specimen collection or processing issues
Safeguard electronic and paper patient health information in compliance with HIPAA and VA privacy standards
Deliver patient-centered care with professionalism and courtesy
Maintain compliance with VA safety, infection control, and quality assurance protocols
Participate in laboratory quality improvement activities, staff meetings, and required training
Complete all required documentation in the VA electronic health record system
Minimum three (3) years of recent phlebotomy experience
Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English fluently
Technical proficiency in phlebotomy and specimen handling
Ability to work across multiple laboratory areas as needed
BLS/ACLS (as required by VA)
Annual VA Privacy, Information Security, and HIPAA training
Compliance with VA mandatory education and ongoing training requirements
Completion of bloodborne pathogen training
Fewer than three (3) specimen or patient identification errors per evaluation period
Fewer than three (3) patient complaints per evaluation period
Adherence to VA patient safety and information security standards
Demonstrated competency in specimen collection and processing
