Job Summary

Job Title: Specialized Critical Care (ICU, PCU, SICU) RN

Location: Miami VA Healthcare System (including 7 Community-Based Outpatient Clinics)

Period of Performance: 08/12/2025 – 08/11/2030

Shift Schedule: PRN; Twelve (12) hour shifts 7:30-8:00; day shift vs night shift

 

Position Description: The Critical Care RN is responsible for delivering comprehensive, high-acuity care to critically ill patients in a complex and dynamic environment. This position oversees patients in three ICU units comprising 36 beds that support medical, surgical, and cardiac critical care, as well as stepdown acuity levels. ICU RNs are essential in providing continuous electronic cardiac monitoring and advanced interventions to stabilize and manage patients with life-threatening conditions, including those requiring isolation.

Primary Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities: Unit Description: The ICUs are comprised of three (3) separate units with a total of 36 beds, for surgical and medical, and cardiac medical patient care at a critical and stepdown patient acuity level that require continual electronic cardiac monitoring. Skills: Medical and surgical care are provided to patients in the CRITICAL CARE area. The scope of care includes patients who are critically ill or whose conditions require the intensive monitoring services of ICU, cardiac and are at risk of needing immediate intensive treatment including COVID and all patients requiring isolation. Treatment/procedures provided in the ICU include, but are not limited to, arterial line monitoring, hemodynamic monitoring, central line monitoring, mechanical ventilation, ECG monitoring and interpretation, gastric lavage, pulse oximetry, pacemaker monitoring, administration of vasoactive intravenous medication, thrombolytic therapy, elective cardioversion, hemodialysis, Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT), Intra-Atrial Ballon Pump (IABP) and Swan Ganz catheter monitoring and post-anesthesia recovery as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Requirements: • BLS and ACLS certifications accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) • Unrestricted license to practice nursing in one of the States, Territories, or Commonwealths of the United States or the District of Columbia • Experience: Minimum of three (3) years of current ICU nursing experience. • Education: ASN accepted; BSN preferred  Education must have been completed at a school accredited by the ACEN or CCNE.
