Job Summary

Biomedical Engineering Technical Professional Support Services (BETPSS) program. The Project Manager provides leadership and coordination for projects related to medical equipment management, clinical systems implementation, and healthcare technology modernization across VA medical centers and associated facilities.

 

The Project Manager oversees the planning, execution, monitoring, and completion of projects supporting VA Healthcare Technology Management (HTM) initiatives, including medical equipment implementation, system integration, technology assessments, and operational improvement efforts. The role requires close coordination with biomedical engineering teams, clinicians, information technology staff, facility leadership, and equipment vendors to ensure successful deployment and sustainment of medical technologies that support patient care.

 

The Project Manager ensures projects are executed in accordance with established project management practices and VA requirements while maintaining alignment with schedule, cost, quality, and risk management objectives. Responsibilities include managing project documentation, facilitating meetings and communications, monitoring performance metrics, and supporting coordination of project stakeholders across multiple healthcare environments.

 

 

 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Plan, manage, and control projects related to biomedical engineering support services, medical equipment implementation, and clinical system integration.
  • Develop and maintain project management documentation including project charters, project management plans, schedules, risk registers, and status reports.
  • Coordinate with VA Biomedical Engineering departments, clinicians, IT personnel, vendors, and facility leadership to support project planning and execution.
  • Monitor project performance against established milestones, schedules, and objectives to ensure timely and successful delivery of project outcomes.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate project risks and issues through proactive planning and coordination with stakeholders.
  • Facilitate project meetings, technical discussions, and communications among stakeholders to ensure alignment and transparency.
  • Support planning and coordination activities for medical equipment installations, technology upgrades, and system implementations.
  • Track project activities, deliverables, and resource requirements to ensure efficient execution of project tasks.
  • Prepare and deliver status reports detailing project progress, risks, financial considerations, and resource requirements.
  • Ensure project activities align with VA policies, regulatory requirements, and healthcare technology management standards.
  • Support coordination of technology implementation activities including site readiness, installation planning, system configuration, and transition to operational sustainment.

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher and certification in project management (e.g., Project Management Professional (PMP)).
  • A minimum of two years of hospital or healthcare experience planning, managing, and controlling projects.
  • Demonstrated competency in planning, managing, and controlling projects throughout their lifecycle; writing or reviewing project management documentation (including project charters, project management plan, Business Reference Model (BRM); problem solving; and risk mitigation and management.
  • Demonstrated mastery and skill in applying the theory, concepts, practices, and techniques consistent with the project management principles outlined in the Project Management Institute's (PMI) Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK).
  • Demonstrated skill in in communicating and working collaboratively with key stakeholders, including technical and professional staff at various levels of the organization.
  • Understanding of regulatory agencies’ requirements, industry regulatory requirements and International Standard Organization standards.
  • (OPTIONAL) Proven ability to lead complex projects, like integrating biomedical devices and systems with Electronic Health Records (EHR) and Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS) using HL7 and DICOM protocols.
