Job Summary

Aptive Resources is seeking a Telehealth Technology Subject Matter Expert (Biomedical Engineer – Senior) to provide advanced technical and programmatic support to the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) Office of Healthcare Technology Management (HTM), with a focus on enterprise telehealth technologies and integrated medical systems. This role supports national-level initiatives aimed at standardizing, deploying, and sustaining telehealth capabilities across VA medical centers, ensuring alignment with clinical programs such as TeleCritical Care, TeleEEG, TelePathology, and other emerging virtual care solutions. The SME will apply deep expertise in biomedical engineering, healthcare technology management, and system integration to enhance the safety, reliability, and performance of telehealth technologies across a large, complex healthcare system.

 

Primary Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include supporting telehealth technology expansion and site readiness efforts, developing and maintaining technical documentation and sustainment plans, and contributing to enterprise-wide standardization initiatives. The SME will collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to support system implementation, testing, and operational readiness while ensuring compliance with cybersecurity, patient safety, and regulatory requirements. Additional responsibilities include contributing to program assessments, supporting incident response and medical device investigations, and providing strategic input to improve telehealth operations, performance, and adoption across VHA facilities.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 10+ years of relevant experience in a healthcare environment supporting biomedical engineering or medical technology systems
  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Engineering from an ABET-accredited program (e.g., Biomedical, Electrical, Mechanical, Clinical Engineering) or equivalent combination with Certified Clinical Engineer (CCE)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of computer-based medical systems, networking protocols, and information security as applied to medical technology
  • Experience supporting or managing medical equipment programs in compliance with healthcare regulations and standards
  • Ability to interpret and apply healthcare regulations, standards, and guidance across large healthcare systems
  • Experience supporting telehealth, clinical systems, or enterprise medical technology deployments
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to brief technical and non-technical stakeholders, including senior leadership
  • Experience contributing to policy development, technical guidance, or enterprise-level initiatives
  • Knowledge of patient safety, incident investigations, or medical device risk management
  • Ability to work independently in a distributed, fast-paced environment supporting national programs

Desired Qualifications

  • Prior experience supporting the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA)
  • Experience supporting VHA, VISN, or large integrated healthcare systems (15+ medical centers)
  • Direct experience with telehealth programs such as TeleCritical Care, TeleEEG, or remote clinical technologies
  • Experience with cybersecurity frameworks, medical device security, and networked clinical systems
  • Experience supporting Authority to Operate (ATO), Risk Management Framework (RMF), or FISMA-related activities
  • Background in patient safety investigations, medical device recalls, or incident response
  • Experience developing technical standards, implementation guides, or enterprise documentation
  • Demonstrated experience supporting large-scale technology deployments or standardization initiatives
  • Familiarity with HTM operations, medical device lifecycle management, and field-based program support
  • Professional certifications (e.g., CCE, PMP, CPHIMS)
  • Active Public Trust clearance or ability to obtain one.
